Burj Khalifa

The iconic Burj Khalifa is one of the world’s most well-known structures, recognized for its impressive design, and height. Standing at a height of more than 2,716.5 feet, the Burj Khalifa has more than 160 stories and holds the honour of being the world’s tallest building. This state-of-the-art building began construction in 2004 and was open to the public in 2010.

The design of the Burj Khalifa is based on the Hymenocallis flower. The tower is built of three parts arranged around a central core. The central core comes out at the top and ends in a sculpted spire. A  y-shaped floor plan gives an extended view over the Arabian Gulf. From the concourse to level 8, and level 38 and 39, the building houses the Armani Hotel, Dubai. Levels 9 to 16 are luxurious Armani Residences. Level 45 to 108 are ultra-luxury private residences. Dubai Creek

Flowing right through the heart of Dubai, the Dubai Creek is a 9-mile long saltwater channel which divides the city into two halves. The two parts of the city on either side of the creek are Bur Dubai – the older, more traditional part of the city in the South West, and Deira Dubai – the glittering modern part to the North East. Dubai Opera is the flourishing centre for arts and culture, located in the Opera District of the city. Palm Jumeirah

The Dubai Frame is a structure of two parallel vertical towers, connected by a 93 metre-long clear glass bridge, all of which together form the picture frame shape. The clear glass pathway connecting both towers gives visitors the feeling of walking on thin air. The glass walkway is the star of the Dubai Frame. It looks like frosted glass at first but turns crystal clear once you step on it. The clear glass reveals a jaw-dropping view of Dubai underneath your feet.

The design of the building is a nod to Dubai’s origins as a pearl-diving city which ultimately led to the bustling cosmopolis it is today. The Dubai frame offers two varied perspectives of the city. Dubai Canal

Dubai canal is a 3.2 kilometre stretch of water body that cuts through Dubai’s central route, the Sheikh Zayed Road, goes through Safa Park and then onto the Jumeirah district till it reaches the Arabian Gulf. This man-made canal is made from water diverted from the Dubai Creek. The purpose of building this canal was to create a waterfront arena in the city’s core. The canal is surrounded by a 3-kilometre running track and 12-kilometres of cycling track. There is also a huge space for public facilities including parking, a trade centre at the entrance of the canal, and facilities for a marina. The canal’s waterfront is dotted by several new lifestyle precincts including hotels, and luxury residences.

A prominent feature of the Dubai Canal is a mechanical waterfall installed at the point where the Sheikh Zayed Road bridge meets the canal. This motion-operated waterfall functions only when there are no boats underneath, but stops the moment any boat is detected. The waterfall is beautifully lit up at night and can be viewed from the promenade. Dubai Museum

The Dubai Museum is aptly housed within the Al Fahidi Fort, the oldest building existing in the city. The museum was built in 1971 to showcase the traditional Emirati way of life and its history. The museum charts Dubai’s evolution from a pearl harvesting, and fishing village to a global hub of finance, commerce, and tourism. There are mock setups made of traditional souks, exhibits of the desert life of the Bedouins, and an entire room dedicating the contribution of the sea in Dubai’s growth before oil was discovered. There are also several archaeological relics from neighbouring excavation sites, Asian and African artifacts, and other immersive light and sound shows depicting life in the olden times.

The fort within which the museum is housed is also noteworthy. The Al Fahidi Fort was the seat of the local rulers till 1896. Post that, the fort served several stints as a prison and garrison before it was finally converted into a museum. The Al Fahidi Fort is fortified by three towers, the entrance is sealed by a sturdy teak door, studded with brass spikes. The entrance gives way to a courtyard where bronze cannons, traditional dhows and an areesha – a palm frond hut that served as a summer home for locals till mid-20^th century – take centre stage. The courtyard is flanked by rooms where instruments and weapons are displayed, and the main exhibit is located underground.

Deira Gold Souk

The Green Planet at City Walk is an indoor attraction that recreates an authentic rainforest in the Arabian Desert. Developed in consultation with leading scientists, zoologists, and architects from across the world, this huge 45 metre-tall cube-shaped structure serves as an educational and recreational space for people of all ages. The structure regulates temperatures and humidity levels to simulate the atmosphere of a real rainforest. The central attraction in this bio-dome is a large man-made tree that rises up to a height of 25 metres. This tree mimics the four layers of a tropical rainforest with branches having planters packed with tropical flora and fauna which eventually took over the structure to create a thriving, lush environment. It is the largest fabricated living tree in the world, creating a sustainable eco-system for other tropical life forms to thrive.

The rest of Green Planet has an aquarium with stingrays, arapaima, turtles, and other interesting marine life. Additionally, there are more than 3000 species of flora and fauna surviving within this structure. Dubai Dolphinarium

Dubai Dolphinarium is Middle East’s first fully air-conditioned indoor dolphinarium. The Dolphinarium has been in operation since 2008 and was developed with the idea of entertaining and educating the general public on dolphins, seals, and several other marine organisms. This place allows the public to watch and interact with dolphins and seal through live shows.

This place consists of a 5,000-square-meter (54,000 sq ft) marine facility having a seating capacity of about 1200 people. The dolphins are housed in their own private areas where the sea water is connected to the pool in the main arena. There are other separate pools for the seals and for medical aid.

The shows at Dubai Dolphinarium have fur seals and dolphins dancing, juggling, jumping through hoops, playing with balls, and even painting. There are evening shows where illusionists and aquatic acrobats perform. On some afternoons, guests are even allowed to swim with the dolphins or feed them their meals. You can even act as a dolphin trainer for a day. Dubai Dolphinarium is also home to several species of birds from around the world. There are 20 different species of birds here including Australian cockatoos and South American macaws. Garden Glow

Dubai Garden Glow has been a huge crowd puller ever since it opened in 2015. This unique attraction is the first-of-its-kind themed garden in the world. The garden features 3 themes within a single venue. The first is a glow-in-the-dark theme featuring pièce de résistance art sculptures lit up with 10 million energy-saving light bulbs and several yards of recycled luminous fabric. The second venue is a Dinosaur park which has more than 100 animatronic dinosaurs on display. The third is the world’s largest ice sculpture park created from 5000 tons of ice.

This unique park is a well-loved destination for people of all age groups. Apart from the creative installations at the park, there are also lots of live music shows held there, among other talented performances. Dubai Miracle Garden

Named as the largest natural flower garden in the world, Dubai’s miracle garden serves as a stark contrast to Dubai’s glass and concrete landscape.  Located near the Arabian Ranches, this attraction was first unveiled on Valentine’s Day and now attracts almost 1.5 million visitors every year.

The Miracle Garden is an extravagant display of natural beauty, made all the more unique since it is developed in a region where the climate is typically dry and arid. The garden is spread over 72,000 square meters of land, cultivating more than 60 million flowers, all of which are tastefully showcased in a variety of designs and sculptures. The beauty of this place lies in the quirky layout of the garden. The flowers are grown into heart-shaped pathways, pyramids, castles, and even cartoon characters. The most crowd-pulling exhibit is a floral recreation of an Airbus A380 which holds a Guinness World Record for being the world’s largest flower arrangement.

The meticulously laid out shrubbery is very well-maintained by a team of expert horticulturists and gardeners. Another noteworthy fact is that the whole of Dubai Miracle Garden is irrigated by re-using wastewater using the drip irrigation method.

The Dubai Miracle Garden is also home to the Dubai Butterfly Garden, the world’s largest, and the region’s first butterfly sanctuary. Dubai Fountain

The Dubai Fountain is a captivating light and music display situated in Downtown Dubai, on the Burj Lake. This performing fountain is over 900 feet in length with a unique design comprising of five circles of different sizes and two arcs. The powerful nozzles of the fountain shoot water into the air to create a variety of design formations to the beat of music. The fountain is lit up by more than 6,600 WET Superlights and 25 colour projectors. The spectacular performances are matched to a variety of different songs ranging from Arabic to world music. The Dubai Fountain has more than 22,000 gallons of water in the air at any given instance.

The performances at the Dubai Fountain are free of cost. It can be viewed from any location around Downtown Dubai, but the most popular spot is the Waterfront Promenade outside Dubai Mall. Aquaventure Waterpark

Water babies will love spending time at Aquaventure Waterpark, one of Dubai’s leading waterparks. Situated at Atlantis the Palm, this waterpark has record-breaking rides, several water slides, swimming with sharks and rays, and a pristine beach for relaxing.

Aquaventure has the most thrilling rides of all the waterparks in Dubai. Visitors to the park can shoot down the 90-foot slide, Leap of Faith, at the Tower of Neptune, to head straight into a shark lagoon where you are enclosed in a see-through tube while sharks swim all around you. Aquaconda, the world’s largest slide, is a long winding tube which cuts through a large expanse of the park, giving the riders a view of the entire park while sliding through it.
